GI Bill

Thank you for your service. We welcome veterans to USATS!

If you have served our country, there are benefits that could help you pay for flight training with us. USATS is a vocational flight school approved for GI Bill benefits.

About The GI Bill

To help you understand the GI Bill program, and the benefits that you could use to help pay for your training with USATS, we have created the following description of the program.

U.S. Aviation Training Solutions Inc is approved for the training of veterans and other eligible persons under the provisions of Title 38 United States Code. Any reference hereafter to “veteran” or “veterans” should be understood to include veterans of the US armed forces and their dependents who may be eligible under a transfer of entitlement.

Determine Your Eligibility

Once you determine which benefits you are qualified to receive, you can begin your USATS application process. The easiest way to find out which benefits apply to you is to contact the VA.

The VA Education Call Center is available at

1-888-442-4551 (Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. CST).

For you to receive VA benefits for vocational flight training you’ll need to meet two prerequisites:

  1. You must already possess a private pilot certificate. Therefore, our Private Pilot Certificate program is excluded from veterans’ benefits.

  2. You will also need a first or second-class medical certificate valid for first-class privileges prior to or on the day you start course training. Note: There is no waiver of this requirement.

Course Requirements

If you want to pursue the instrument rotorcraft certificate limited to VFR, you will also need to enroll in the commercial pilot course, unless you already possess a commercial pilot rotorcraft certificate.

Approved Courses

Not all courses are approved by the FAA for veterans’ training. Only courses approved by the FAA under 14 CFR Part 141 or 142 are eligible for veterans’ training. No training under 14 CFR Part 61 will be approved for training at a vocational flight school under any circumstances.

GI Bill® Programs And Payments

VA education benefits payments for vocational flight training may be made to the veteran or the school, depending on which GI Bill® program the student is eligible for.

The following is a list of programs, eligibility, and payment arrangements for GI Bill® programs.

Montgomery GI Bill – Active Duty And Montgomery GI Bill – Selected Reserve (Chapters 30 And 1606, Respectively):

The VA reimburses the veteran 60% of the monthly cost of training for dual and solo flights, ground school, and pre/post-flight briefings. Reimbursement may be subject to a percentage of benefit based upon the length of service and amount of entitlement to remaining benefits. Please visit the GI Bill website for further details:

Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33)

VA reimburses the school for all, or part, of the monthly cost of training for dual and solo flights, ground school, and pre/post-flight briefings. The percentage of reimbursement is dependent upon the veteran’s aggregate length of service. In addition, payments will be subject to an academic year cap for all courses started during the same academic year (which runs from August 1st through to July 31st). The current cap is $13,526.81. The amount paid will also be limited to the amount of entitlement you have remaining.  Please access the GI Bill website for further details:

Those persons eligible for payments under a transfer of entitlement are subject to those same limitations and should access the GI Bill website for further details.

Dependents Educational Assistance (Chapter 35)

Persons eligible under this benefit are not eligible to utilize those benefits for vocational flight training under any circumstances.

In all cases, veterans should discuss financial arrangements regarding payment for flight training before beginning their course.  As with other students, veterans will be required to pay on accounts.

If you haven’t done so already, and have never used GI Bill benefits previously, you need to apply for benefits on the GI Bill website. If you have used your benefits at another school, you will need to apply to change your program from one school to another at that same site. VA will then issue you a certificate of eligibility that will specify what education benefits you are eligible for and how long you have to use them.

Please bring that document to USATS so that we may file the appropriate certification on your behalf.

Once you commence training we will file an enrollment certification with VA so that your award for benefits may be established. At the end of each month, we will submit a monthly certification of flight training that will generate the GI Bill payments to you or USATS, depending on which GI Bill you are eligible for.
